Northern Italy produces a wide range of wines, from full bodied tannic Barolo to delicate Soave. It has a large number of unique local grape varieties and a moderate climate with short dry summers.
Refreshing whites and premium full-bodied reds from both local and international grapes are also made with great success in Central Italy. This region is dominated by the Apennines. Coastal regions on both sides of the country benefit from cooling sea breezes.
Italy is finally getting the attention it deserves for its fine wines and now is a great time to be discovering them - increased temperatures have delivered good to excellent vintages in all but a handful of years since 1995.
