Wine has been produced in the Rhône Valley for over 500 years. Some of its vineyards are among the oldest in France.
Northern Rhône is most closely associated with powerful Syrah reds. The best source for good value here is Crozes-Hermitage.
The vineyard area of Southern Rhône is much larger and flatter. Again, production is dominated by red wine - often complex blends rather than just one or two varieties.
