Bodegas Sonsierra was born in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in the heart of a region with unique characteristics for vine growing, where the Tempranillo grape finds its perfect environment. In 1962, more than 240 vine growers decided to pool their 430 hectares of vineyards to realize an old dream of farmers in the village: the creation of a cooperative in which they produce their own wines. Today Mindiarte is one of several labels produced in this spirit by the cooperative.
Planting occupies a wide variety of different terrain: from the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains at an altitude of 770 metres, to the rolling terraces of the lowlands near the River Ebro, at an altitude of just 420 metres. This diversity is an exceptional legacy handed down to them from their forebears, which they take great pains to tend and protect.
Sonsierra is in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and is part of the municipality in the Spanish La Rioja region. Sonsierra means "from under the Sierra" - implying: "protected by the mountain range".
Bodegas Sonsierra's wines are amongst the most prestigious Rioja wines, fine and aromatic in their youth, well balanced and with a delicate bouquet once aged. They are wines with a unique personality, with the unmistakable character of a historical area dedicated to wine.

Harvested by hand from vines with an average age of over 40 years, in the county of Sonsierra in the heart of the Rioja Alta region.
The must undergoes low-temperature pellicular maceration with the pomace for 24 hours in order to extract the maximum amount of aromatic precursors. It is then clarified at cold temperatures before undergoing alcoholic fermentation for a further 24 hours. When the sugar concentration starts to fall, the wine is transferred to new barrels of American oak, where it completes its alcoholic fermentation. It is then aged on its lees, which are stirred twice per week over a period of 3.5 months in order to keep them suspended. This wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, as our aim is to preserve the acidity that gives it its characteristic freshness.
Contains: sulphites.
This subtle yet distinctive wine is an attractive pale yellow colour, with bright lemon yellow hints. Its bouquet conveys the great elegance and complexity that is given to the wine by its barrel-aging on the lees. The fruity tones of pear and pineapple combine with those of white flowers and citrus, harmonising perfectly with the hints of toast, nuts, coconut and vanilla against a mouth-watering background of pastries. In the mouth it is silky and very voluminous, with a delicious blend of white and citrus fruits and just the right amount of acid to add freshness and vivacity. The sweet, persistent finish leads to an aftertaste filled with hints of fruit and toast.

Some 5 small vineyards with a unique terroir, located at an altitude of 450-750 metres. Goblet-trained in accordance with a traditional, balanced viticulture that naturally limits the production per hectare. These rain-fed vineyards, with their thin clay-limestone soil, are able to withstand harsh climates & adverse weather conditions. They are south-facing, which ensures they receive enough hours of sunshine to guarantee optimum ripening of the grape clusters. Rainfall is medium to low, with hot summers & cold winters. Daytime & night-time temperatures vary greatly throughout the ripening process, which significantly improves the quality of the grape. Harvested by hand.
The must undergoes a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. It is pumped-over frequently in order to achieve optimum colour extraction. Weekly stirring & malolactic fermentation on the lees then takes place in carefully selected French oak barrels from the best cooperages in the world. The wine is left to age for 16 months in barrels of French oak, followed by at least 26 months in the bottle before it is ready to go on sale. Contains: sulphites.
This very special Reserva has tremendous complexity, boasting a veritable symphony of flavours. The barrel-aging underlines & complements the exuberance of the ripe fruit that characterises our longest-aged wine. Dark chocolate, raisins & sultanas, chocolate liqueurs, eucalyptus, roasted coffee beans & cream all vie for attention. In the mouth it is voluminous, strong, ample, full-bodied & refined, with an agreeable finish that leaves a deep, long-lasting aftertaste as a powerful reminder of the wines personality.
Handpicked old vineyards, from 40 to 80 years old located on the higher slopes of the Cantabrian Mountain Range.
After a gentle crush, cold maceration of the must with the skins for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 8 days with periodic pumping at a maximum controlled temperature of 27ºC in order to preserve and extract the fruity aromas. Post fermentative maceration for 24-48 hours. Malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks.
24 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak Bordeaux-type barrels. Minimum 36 months’ bottle aging.
Contains: sulphites.
Strong and elegant with an aromatic complexity that develops as the wine airs in the glass. The notes of ripe fruit and currants, so typical of the old-growth vines where the grapes were grown, combine perfectly with the delicate aromas of cocoa, cream and toast and the balsamic hints provided by the wine’s lengthy aging in both barrel and bottle. It is voluminous and very well-structured in the mouth, with strong, sweet tannins that offer a long, silky, enveloping finish.
Planted in 1950, this vineyard features bush-trained vines. It is located at an altitude of 435 meters on a small hillside that descends towards the Ebro River. Thanks to its great longevity, the vines have strong, deep roots that help them store reserves in their thick trunks, promoting better budding and growth. Each mature vine directs its greatest effort into every cluster, producing small grapes with deeper, more complex colour, aromas, and flavour.
After selection and destemming, the grapes were placed in stainless steel tanks, where fermentation took place over 10 days without post-fermentation maceration. A total of 3,100 litres were produced, which were used to fill 13 new, selected 225-litre French oak barrels, where the wine remained for 21 months without racking.
Contains: sulphites.
An intense ruby red colour with deep garnet reflections, clean and bright. The nose reveals intensely fresh black fruit such as black cherry and balsamic aromas, with spicy hints of cocoa and coffee. The palate is long and intense with well-rounded, polished tannins, leaving memories of the aromas recorded on the nose.
