To enter Solar da Pena is to immerse yourself in the history of Portugal. Its origin is lost in time, having been founded shortly after the Battle of Salado and was home to a number of notable personalities of Portuguese medieval chivalry. Legend has it that the manor house was donated to Archbishop D. Gonçalo Pereira, grandfather of D. Nuno Álvares Pereira.

In the countless corners of the property, you can breathe the centuries of history of a place where several of their neighbouring peoples passed, from Galicians to Castilians and Leonese, until the consolidation of our nation.

The front of Solar da Pena boasts an imposing coat of arms, with emphasis on the quinas and the deer offered by Kings Afonso IV of Portugal and Afonso XI of Castile, with the built heritage being recovered, including the manor house and the chapel.

Today, in the hands of businessman José Correia, not only is a traditional and imposing wine brand reborn, also called Solar da Pena, but also the rebuilding of a chapter in the history of Portugal.

Assaz Vinho Verde DOC

Origin: Portugal

Solar da Pena is located in the verdant Minho region and is part of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region. In the heart of the Cávado sub-region, we planted our vineyards, the oldest of which date back to 2001.

Currently, we have 30 hectares of vineyards, where we produce grapes in harmony with nature, distributed across four plots: Solar da Pena, Quinta da Ombra, Quinta das Areias, and Quinta de Moure, the latter being the oldest vineyard.

Vinification

Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to retain a high level of natural acidity.

Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, this is done to preserve the primary aromatic notes and crisp character of the grapes rather than introducing heavy oak flavors.

The wine is cold-stabilized and filtered to prevent further fermentation in the bottle, ensuring a vibrant, fresh-tasting pour.

Solar da Pena Loureiro

Origin: Portugal

The property has an area of 22 hectares, being occupied mainly with vineyards, kiwi cultivation and fruit trees, in addition to the cellar where we produce vinhos verdes of recognized quality.

We promote a natural balance with the nature that inhabits and surrounds the estate, respecting the existing flora and fauna. You can also find our goats and sheep happily wandering around the property.

Vinification

Grapes are hand-picked to prevent premature oxidation and to ensure only the highest quality clusters are selected, the grapes then undergo gentle destemming followed by a short, cold skin-contact maceration. This step maximizes the extraction of the signature elderflower, chamomile, and citrus aromatics the Loureiro variety is known for.

Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (typically between 14°C and 16°C) to preserve the fresh fruit and floral characteristics.

To maintain its bright, lively profile, the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. It is aged on its fine lees (sur lie) with occasional stirring to add texture, body, and complexity before cold stabilization and bottling.
