Clos Fourtet has 19 hectares of vineyards planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
For centuries, the ancient ‘Camp Fortet’ (small fort) with its modest profile has overlooked the historic town of Saint-Émilion, peacefully surveying it in times of prosperity, protecting it in times of war. The 20-hectare vineyard forms a single plot, planted upon the highest slopes of Western Saint-Émilion. Constructed from the very rock upon which it stands, the chateau and its surrounding wall (hence ‘clos’) are intimate and unassuming
La Closerie de Fourtet is the second wine of Premier Grand Cru Classé estate Clos Fourtet in Saint-Émilion, made from young vines on clay-limestone soils. It is crafted using traditional methods and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (25-30 days), aged for 12–18 months in French oak barrels with 60% new barrels, and showcases a Merlot-dominated blend focused on freshness and red fruit
This 2010 vintage combines freshness and power both on the nose and the palate, the aromas mostly consist of black fruits, but there are also liquorice and tropical fruit notes. On the palate, it is appealing and spherical with ripe, close-knit tannins. The finish is straight and very long with lots of freshness following through.
