It was not until 1974 during a severe wine crisis Joseph Revoltier bought Château Fargueirol in a largely abandoned state with its 10 hectares of neglected vines. These were painstakingly over-grafted by the family. The descendants have now, with great motivation and courage, developed the Fargueirol castle and tripled the surface and the vines planted. Those wines are now in the full force of age producing excellent wines.

The Domaine currently has 30 hectares of vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 10 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône and 2 hectares in local wines.

Origin: Châteauneuf du Pape, Rhône, France

It was not until 1974 during a severe wine crisis Joseph Revoltier bought Château Fargueirol in a largely abandoned state with its 10 hectares of neglected vines. These were painstakingly over-grafted by the family. The descendants have now, with great motivation and courage, developed the Fargueirol castle and tripled the surface and the vines planted. Those wines are now in the full force of age producing excellent wines. The origins of this Château date back to 1344 and it was originally a papal property. It was purchased by the Revoltier family in 1976 and the 40 hectares are planted with 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, with the remaining 25% spread over 11 different varieties. The style here is modern, with an emphasis on bright summer fruits and notable spice.

Vinification

Hand harvested, with a rigorous fruit selection, the grapes were de stemmed before fermentation in stainless steel at relatively low temperatures(22-24C) with indigenous yeasts. After 3 weeks maceration, the wine was racked to aged oak casks for 10 months maturation.. The wine was gently fined but not filtered prior to bottling.

Winemaker's Notes

Ruby coloured, the nose is spicy and full of sweet dried fruits. The palate is medium to full bodied with spicy, gamey flavours allied to prune, raspberry and leathery notes. The finish is warm and ripe and framed with elegance.
