Based in Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Lucien Boillot has vineyards in no less than 14 different appellations across the Cote d'Or, principally Premier Crus in the Cote de Nuits. Most recently they have bought a Premier Cru Puligny, the first vintage of which was made in 2006.
The wines are made by Lucien Boillot, somewhat of a traditionalist, who allows the terroir to express itself through minimal intervention in the cellar. New wood is kept to no more than 25-30% on Premiers and Grands Crus, and the wines undergo a long maceration post fermentation to extract the colour and tannins, meaning they are very tight for the first 4-5 years, broadening in with age.
Originally known for their Cote de Beaune wines, several Cote de Nuits appellations were added in 1978, with Louis Boillot now the seventh generation of vigneron in Burgundy.
The grapes come from seven parcels around the village that total approx. 2 hectares, originally planted in the mid 1950s. Minimal intervention with grapes harvested by hand.
Elegant bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a keen line of acidity. Good structure with light mineral touches.
